I hope it does what it says in the title for you. On my side, it is full of quiet joy. Acts of Silence: Life is full of reappearances and memories. Several months ago, I disappeared from some of your social media radars. No worries, I wasn’t ghosting you, but various issues of real life came up, both with difficult and enjoyable aspects. The difficult ones have disappeared, probably different ones will reappear, and the wonderful times still remain. Long before that one of my favorite...

Based on an old Welsh folk tale, track 1 a collab with Gillian Stevens. 1/Gillian's crwth via cave + Gillian sings plus dog in a cave 2/Ecstatic medieval nuns on infinite delay. Acts of silence: Alan Morse Davies recently wrote about Amusement Park Phases : I count this as one of my major achievements. I’m not dead yet but I think I may be remembered for this. I think he is absolutely correct that it was a major achievement, but five years later Davies is still putting out fantastic...

Did this in my bedroom as normal, songs of love, then love gone bad. Didn't have a record deal, gave it to a few friends on cassette and DAT. Raided it later for comps out of sequence. This is from DAT, this is what I originally sent, it is quite joyous and quite dark. In 1992, almost everyone in the original early 80s DIY tape & vinyl scene stopped making music unless they had a record deal. People wanted CDs, a CDR recorder was $11,000 and no-one really had them to borrow! (CD-Rs...

My first vinyl single, released as "AED". The first track is about the joy of not knowing what's going to happen. I was influenced by William S. Boroughs, cut the lyrics up into bits, arranged them randomly, I did have to change "our souls" into "souls are" though at the recording session in Union Studios, Oxford. I could play bass (2 layers), I could sing a bit (2 layers) and I could play recorder (2 layers), I could not play guitar well at this point (16...

Clive Wilkinson: "I am a composer and gardener who teaches creative and contextual studies at The Northern School of Contemporary Dance (NSCD) in Leeds, UK, who believes creativity is central to who we are and not an add on.". Elvis Costelllo said "talking about music is like dancing to architecture", Clive could dance to architecture, he could probably name its colour and number as a concept. His work is wildly creative, varied, honest, persistent and sometimes extreme but...

My choreographer friend John asked me to make something like John Adams, he was about to start rehearsals in the US and didn't have the rights to use the music, thus... retrospectively, it was not based on his work, just a general idea and I think it's better than most things by John Adams except the original version of "The Sinking of the Titanic", this is how it goes, try to copy, ends up weird.

Music for the contemporary dance work by John Utans. This is one of the earliest full length experimental pieces I made after going digital. I don't really know how to describe it but it's quite coherent as a whole, power ambient medieval electronica? What vocals there are are in Latin, Tuvan and Gaelic. Please enjoy.

Last AED record, post-rock of sorts. Track 1 features Mike and Richard from Spectrum, recorded at Woodhouse Studios in Leeds. Track 2 a bedroom affair using my brand new pitch shifting box. Sunshine Lies is about deceit and hypocrisy, the things we tell ourselves that are not true. September Will Never Come is about the AIDS epidemic at a time when my friends were dying, the media was silent and genpop seemed indifferent to their deaths. It is a protest song of hope. I have one test...

UK 50hz mains electricity hum + US 60hz mains electricity hum, overlaid in different patterns and played 10 times. It is only 2 tones, 50hz and 60hz but overlaid they create wild HF harmonics which our brains cannot interpret, think your own music. The point of repeating is our response to limited information, we like narrative, if there is none, we create it. It is both sensory overkill and deprivation. It is sort of binaural, please listen through headphones loud.

Fever dream of Cambodian hill tribe music. There are lots of layers but I tried to disappear the process so it seemed like a natural flow. "Boat Woman Song" by Canaxis has been embedded in my brain for several decades on one of the back burners, in this it bears fruit, it is much happier I think, no war and all.

My second album, from 1984, sold 5 double cassettes. Designed as a form of slow punishment at the time and did not gain traction. The first three tracks are built up from tape loops, the last is overlaid layers of slowed down birdsong which was also the B side of my first single. Dark ambient? Ripped from the reel to reel and cleaned up sometime in the 2000s I think.

Three slowed down 78s. Disquiet: We know what Alan Morse Davies did to construct The Last Summer. The brief liner note on the project’s home page states it plainly enough: “An album of manipulated recordings from 78RPM records recorded between 1905 and 1931.” He’s taken outmoded recordings of once popular music and transformed them, courtesy of the creative license inherent in the public domain, into his own deeply felt renditions. The shortest of the three tracks, a version of the...
